Victoria Park East Golf Club
1096 Victoria Rd, Guelph, ON, N1L 1C6 CanadaVictoria Park East Golf Club has been a part of the community since 1974. The 18-hole, 6500-yard par 71 layout is considered one of the most challenging in the area, and with recent improvements to the sand traps, irrigation system and par-3 water holes, the condition of the golf course can be described as “spectacular”.
The 136-acre property that is now Victoria Park East was a farm and country retreat for the Hales family. Alf Hales was a long-time, popular Member of Parliament for the Wellington riding from the mid-1950s until 1972. Across the road, Ted DeCorso built Victoria Park Golf Club in 1967 (later to be called Victoria Park West), and when the Hales property came up for sale in 1971, Ted and his brothers Carmine and Angelo conceived a plan to purchase the property and build a larger golf course – one that would be unique to the area. Golf course architect Rene Muylaert provided the plan, and construction began in 1972. Clever use of the “dog-leg” design and water hazards highlight the layout, and Victoria Park East officially opened in July 1974.
